COMPARTMENTALIZE
In Compartmentalize, I explored the way the brain uses implicit and explicit memories to make intuitive decisions. I explored positive memories that I had unintentionally suppressed in order to compartmentalize traumatic events that paralleled that same period of my life. I began sifting through my memory boxes, pulling photographs, journal entries, and poems from when I was around 15.
I allowed my intuition to guide the artistic manifestation of these ideas and memories. This resulted in the formation of a digitally-printed and hand-assembled textile photo book paired with a patch-worked and hand-embroidered banner. I intricately embroidered the words of my poem “The Twilight.” This poem provides a glimpse into the headspace of my teenage self: her feelings of confusion and longing for an escape and sense of control over her future.
