WORK IN PROGRESS
Work in Progress is based on my daily practice of abstract watercolor paintings, which were an exercise in practicing mindfulness and playing with color gradation. I scanned the paintings into the computer and translated them into a halftone repeat. I hand screenprinted the design on cotton broadcloth in three colorways, stretched the fabric around cardboard bases, wrapped them in string, and loosely placed pins into them.
The three pieces represent my mom, my sister, and me. They have the appearance of unfinished work to symbolize the way we must treat ourselves like works in progress and remain teachable in order to grow. They speak to how we must heal, mend, and redefine relationships after shared experiences of trauma. The use of the daily practice imagery expresses the importance of consistency and commitment in our journeys to healing.
