CONTINUITY

Continuity is a woven painting that explores how trauma can shape coping mechanisms. It symbolizing perseverance and the ability to maintain a productive and positive life despite instability in childhood. Compartmentalization emerges as a central theme, a learned tool for managing difficult emotions and triggers in daily life.

Woven on a 4-shaft floor loom, the monk’s belt threading creates a checkerboard effect, where the rhythm and repetition of the squares symbolize the continuity of time and perseverance in the face of adversity. Much like days on a calendar, these squares represent one’s ongoing journey—moving forward, finding silver linings, and embracing whatever comes next.
