CANVAS FOR A CURE
Canvas for a Cure is a collection of artworks created for the VCU Health ALS Clinic’s community event celebrating the resilience of the ALS community, the progress in research and the contributions that make it possible.
Each piece was designed to reflect facets of the ALS experience. The installation celebrated the hope, and strength of the ALS community—patients, families, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers—while raising awareness and support for continued research efforts.
Drawing from my textile design background, I used material processes—such as embroidery, weaving, and painting—to embed layers of meaning beyond imagery. Techniques like repetition, handwork, and layering became metaphors for time, care, and persistence.
Visitors engaged directly with the artwork, adding their own contributions and stories. The result was a visual portrait of community—an expression of shared hope that blurred the boundaries between art, design, and human experience.
